The poorest people live next to protected areas and have very little access to modern primary health care and information on human and animal disease.Communities bordering protected areas are also at risk from wildlife disease.These communities include those around Bwindi and Queen Elizabeth National Parks.

Bwindi core zone area is 32,092 ha and is in areas of Kisoro, Kanungu, Rukungiri and Kabale. It is located in south west Uganda at the plain and mountain forests. Bwindi Park covers 32,000 ha and is known for its exceptional biodiversity with more than 100 species of trees and over 100 species of ferns. Many endangered species like mountain gorillas. The people around Bwindi are mostly Bakiga who live in abject poverty characterized by high levels of illiteracy suffering from many diseases, with low income, practicing and believing in traditions.There are several parishes which include Mukono and Bujengwe.

CTPH held 3 community PRA Workshops with QENP pastoralists at Hamukungu, Katwe- Kabatoro and Nyakatonzi. Here livestock health and disease issues at the wildlife/livestock human interface in and around Queen Elizabeth and come up with recommendations for the way forward to prevent and control disease transmission at this interface.
